Keep reading for all the info you need to compete, including this year’s theme … Data + Joy.

Data + Joy

For the global qualifier contest, we want you to viz what you love.

We all want to feel joy. At times, we’re brimming with it. Other times, we have to dig deep to find it. Last year we learned to find joy in simple, everyday things: Steaming hot delivery food. Streaming entertainment. Free shipping. Adorable pets and kids on conference calls. Baby Yoda memes.

We could go on and on and on, but what really lit us up was seeing everything that brought you joy. You vizzed about brilliant Black women in history, long-distance running, the best LGBTQ+ movies, Japanese cherry blossoms, a year of film and TV, Bridgerton, LOTR, and Bob Ross and the Joy of Painting

So, Data Fam, what brings you joy? Maybe, like Tableau Community member Jonathan Minutillo, it’s video games. Or the creamy hazelnut goodness of Nutella, like Ali Tehrani. For Brian Moore, it’s the out-of-this-world brilliance of the patterns made by planetary orbits

Now it’s your turn. Go forth and viz what you love to compete for global viz glory in Iron Viz 2021

Fame, glory, and prizes

If these prizes don’t spark joy, we don’t know what will.

The top 10 overall finishers in the qualifier contest will receive a $200 Tableau Store gift certificate to get their data swag on. The top 3 finalists will progress to the Iron Viz Championship where the stakes get even higher:

  • 1st place: $10,000 cash prize (!!!); $5,000 to a nonprofit of choice; free registration to Tableau Conference 2022; and the Iron Viz Champion trophy
  • 2nd place: $5,000 cash prize; $2,000 to a nonprofit of choice; free registration to Tableau Conference 2022
  • 3rd place: $2,000 cash prize; $1,000 to a nonprofit of choice; free registration to Tableau Conference 2022

And the prestige of competing on the global Iron Viz stage? Priceless.

One global qualifier contest to rule them all
