As easy as ABC: creating a data literate workforce

Data offers huge commercial opportunities to organisations, but only if it is collected and analysed correctly. Building a data-literate workforce is the critical first step in creating a company that is data-driven and thus equipped to make better decisions, faster than the competition, and to seize future opportunities. But many businesses in the Asia-Pacific suffer from a skills shortage, with staff lacking the ability to interpret and analyse the data they have at hand.

Mr Pook has a depth of experience in the data and analytics space, leading companies in the APJ region at the forefront of innovation in emerging data technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and more. He has a keen focus on customer and employee success, building a team of enthusiastic data champions that rally behind Tableau’s mission to help people see and understand data, and deliver growth for customers. Mr Pook’s passion to create real change in the world sees him being a vocal proponent of data for good, advocating the value of data in creating social impact and for the workforce of the next generation. He joined Tableau in 2011, and under his leadership the business has rapidly grown in APJ with presence in all key markets in the region, serving thousands of customers and partners.

Austin R Bryan

Chief digital officer
CLP Holdings

As chief digital officer, Austin R Bryan leads the CLP Group’s efforts to harness digital technologies to create new business solutions that are more efficient, connected and customer-centric. He oversees the development of CLP’s digital capabilities including information technology, data services, digital products and services, as well as cybersecurity. Before taking up his current role in April 2022, Mr Bryan was senior director of innovation, leading CLP’s efforts to develop innovative business models and build collaborative partnerships, after joining the group in 2016.

A proven pioneer of new services and value creation in the digital media sector, Mr Bryan is a globally recognised leader in transforming business activities in the financial and telecommunications sectors. His experience spans the creation of the first direct banking activities in Germany in the early 1990s, the introduction of virtual customer service platforms for American Express and the creation of the first 3G multimedia mobile network in Australia with 3 Mobile. Most recently he was vice-president of strategic innovation at Singtel Optus, where he led the acquisition of major digital media projects and created a US$1bn digital media business developing and implementing new digital products and services.

Jennifer Rebeiro

Jennifer Rebeiro is the chief information officer at Greater Western Water, and was named as one of Australia’s top 50 CIOs in 2020 and 2021. She has led teams across a wide range of industries and functions, challenging and transforming each one to respond to the evolving business environment and changing community expectations.In over 20 years of experience across diverse industries, she has achieved excellence in transformation, project management and change management. She has managed a number of operational areas and projects in fields from banking and finance to transport, manufacturing, property services, telecommunications and government.Ms Rebeiro holds an MBA, a master’s degree in IT management and a bachelor’s degree in business, is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has a range of ICT and project-management industry accreditations.She sits on the executive group of Intelligent Water Networks, the SWAN global council and the committee of Wyndham Tech School.

Grace Park

Grace Park is a vice-president and the chief analytics officer for Asia at Manulife. She is responsible for advancing data and analytics capabilities to power Manulife’s digital transformation and ensure that it becomes a data-driven leader within its industry. She has more than 20 years of experience across financial services, retail and consulting in Asia and the United States, as well as extensive leadership experience in Asia.

Previously she was the head of analytics monetisation and business planning at Standard Chartered, where she promoted a focus on greater business efficiency, standardising the bank’s retail products and increasing the value delivered by data and insights. Before that she held senior positions with LG Electronics, the Boston Consulting Group and A.T. Kearney. She has an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

His team of editors, consultants, economists, and analysts work with multinationals, governments, SMEs and high-growth technology firms to create independent research and insights programmes which have a meaningful impact on society’s most pressing issues.

A research, insights and strategy expert with a deep practical knowledge of business drawn from almost 20 years of working either within companies to set strategy and deliver on business outcomes, or as an external consultant and researcher. Practical experience is underpinned by formal training, including an MBA undertaken at the University of Oxford and professional courses at the London School of Economics.
